Louvre

The Louvre  Museum is the world’s largest museum and a historical monument in Paris. A central landmark of the city, it is located on the right bank of the Seine. The museume is housed in theLouvre Palace, originally built as the Louvre castle in the late 12th 13th century under Philip II.  The museum opened on 10 August 1793n with an exhibition of 537 paintings.  the painting collectiom has more than 7500 works from the 13th century to 1848. Nearly two-third are by French artists and more then 1200 are Northen European. The collection began with Francis I, who collected works from Italian masters such as Raphael and Michelangelo. Besides of the paintings there are statues, antiquites, decorative arts (object collected from the Midddle Ages). The glass pyramid in front of the building is stand over the entrace of the museum. The pyramid built in 1988 and the Louvre Pyramid was completed in 1989.
